I am fortunate to live in an area of Chicago that is booming (we even got a new zip code last week!) and as such, many new real estate brokerages have opened up.  How do I know this?  Because I happen and see some balloons strung up outside when I walk by.  It has to be a good business, they have balloons, right?  This screams, “how to open a business 1.0″.  Balloon do nothing to set them apart from the 100 other brokers in the neighborhood.

Next week Realogy will launch their fifth brand Better Homes and Garden Real Estate.  What is interesting about this launch is how they have utilized social media for months prior to their launch to educate the public on the process of launching and how they are utilizing technology to differentiate themselves.

The day their doors open, Better Homes and Garden Real Estate is not just going to hang some balloons outside their physical location, but they are utilizing social media to hang balloons all over the Internet.  And they aren’t just inviting people who happen to pass by to come in and join them.  They are inviting everyone to come in and share their opening day by hosting a webcast of the event!

Join Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate this Wednesday, July 23rd at 8:30am PST/11:30am EST for a press conference and webcast to formally announce the launch of this new and innovative real estate brand.  Click here  to learn more and register.

Now THAT is how you launch 2.0 style!

    Hi Sara,

Thanks for the blog post, and we excited about our launch. We have so many interesting things happen with our social networking strategy. We plan to share some of the ideas in the Building a Brokerage of the Future session Thursday afternoon at Connect. Looking forward to seeing you in SF in a few days.

I am interested, but just a little bit. I’ll probably tune in to see if they truly do something different. Bringing back an old brand and trying to make it ‘new’ is risky. I would be most impressed if they leverage their content creation clout with local real estate. Alas, I doubt they will.
