Email definitely rules for direct sharing or even as a small group sharing tool. In our own ShareThis implementation, email is #1 as well. Also on YouTube for example, the first link in sharing below the video is email. I guess people still forward videos to a selected group of people (who they know share the same interest or sense of humor) vs a loosely coupled group like Facebook "friends" . So keep your email spam filter up to date. Email is still very important.

David - I'm out the door but will check out Freds Blog when I return. I was under the impression email was on it's way out as I have teens who have tried to convince me of this, however the pie in the sky says different.

That's a great piece of link-bait from RWW.

This week Fred Wilson (an early investor in delicious) was blogging about how some geek technologies won't cross the chasm and go mainstream and he used delicious as an example. Clearly tagging's 15 minutes of fame has passed (it was more like a year; 2005.) E-mail and Socnets look like they are here to stay though. I also think it's fascinating how quickly Technorati is becoming redundant and how tenaciously Digg is hanging onto its popularity.

Here's Fred's post: http://www.avc.com/a_vc/2008/08/is-geek-tech-go.html
