There has been a lot of talk about video lately especially with the announcement from Google about adding Youtube stats. My colleague Rodney and I were chatting about some of the things we do with YouTube videos.

Besides producing, uploading and embedding videos, there’s one other thing to keep in mind… optimizing your YouTube videos so they will show in the Google search results. YouTube is highly indexed and will show up from time to time in the universal search results.

Here are a few things that you can do to get some search engine love out of your YouTube videos:

1. Use your keyword in the Title of your video. If your video is an open house of a property at 1485 Homer Street. Then the title of the video should be “1485 Homer Street Open House”

2. Use your keyword in the description of the video… Seems redundant, but don’t forget to put your keyword in the video description as well.

3. Add you URL to the first line of the description. This won’t help your SEO, but it will be a quick and easy way for people to visit your site if they like your video. Here is an example of what I mean – http://youtube.com/watch?v=gscFgaMTm48

4. After you post a video, link to the video in your blog.
I’m not saying embed the video, but actually link to the video on YouTube with “Good Link Text.”
For example: Write a blog post and include the text… “view the video of 1485 Homer Street” and make 1485 Homer Street a link to your video on YouTube. I’ve used this method in the past and doing so has taken our video from page two on the search engine to page one.

I hope that helps.
