My tactic: I usually respond back with a polite email stating that both my rankings and my search traffic are already better that their own and then offer them my services for their website, of course with an over inflated price :) . I am sure that really ticks someone off, its kind of fun though. I would never of course work with them, I just like to rub their noses in their own doodie a bit.
