Hi Tyler –
You may want to consider all of the ongoing costs of developing a custom IDX solution with a programmer who doesn’t focus on just IDX sites for a living.

You might be surprised at what a custom IDX solution like idxbroker could offer in terms of customization, not to mention not having to bear the risk of any future changes to the data feed and the relative costs. I realize a “short term fix” might sound like the better option, but I would definitely suggest looking into a long term solution – there are quite a few out there that are reasonably priced and in the long run, save both money and time!

I have a new website that I have recently started I am waiting on the programer to complete my integrated IDX Feed. It has a lot of glitches, I did this site on trade so I am hoping that I do not need to search or pay for another. I am wondering where I might turn for a short term fix.

My question is why anybody hasn't created one that integrates on the customer's server via php or asp with an include? If the customer stops paying for the service, then shut off delivery on the server side.

We have been using a framed IDX from Wolfnet with pretty much the results you describe. On the postive side it's easy to implement on a new website and make custom searches that are run in an iFrame.

The bad news is that it's an SEO disaster and tracking using Analytics or PPC Conversion code is not possible. Wolfnet has been very non-responsive in fixing these issues, even though they are pretty simple. They apparently have no clue of the importance of SEO and tracking for our agent and broker clients.

We are looking at other solutions including the one you mentioned IDX Broker. If someone has any comments on it's performance, we would love to hear about it.

The SEO concern is certainly a valid one and in fact this is one of the primary reasons you would want to have a branded IDX search page instead one that is framed. I can’t speak to the recent REW troubles, but it’s my understanding that it may have been related to some paid directory listing issues and not any IDX specific issues. As far as the benefits of using an integrated IDX solution, perhaps an example is best here to explain what I am talking about above.

Try this Google search: http://www.google.com/search?q=Harbour+Bay+Homes&btnG=Search

When I searched for this company, the first two organic results are for the company’s primary website and the 4th organic result was for that company’s integrated IDX search page. If you visit the IDX page, you will notice that the page is a branded website complete with search capabilities. The benefit here being that when these IDX pages get picked up by the search engines, the resulting page includes the primary website’s HTML and complete branding.

Now try this search: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Boca+Raton+MLS+Property+Search&btnG=Search

In this case the company’s primary URL (bocaluxuryhomes.com) is not displaying on the 1st page, but the integrated IDX page is the first organic listing you see for this popular search term. Since this IDX page is integrated with the company’s HTML, that page is directed to a company branded website with all the IDX search tools built in, just like the above example.

If either of the two IDX examples above did not include any integrated branding (AKA: framed in) and those IDX pages were to get indexed by the search engines (this is a good thing!), the user would simply be directed to a blank and unbranded IDX search page. It may look good with an iFrame or regular frame when users view this page through your website, but if they find your search tools through any other method, such as a search engine, it’s a sure way to lose a quality lead!
