Apple has announced their new line of iPods and they are nothing short of brilliant. For the first time, the iPod Nano will have the ability to store and view up to 5 hours of video with an enhanced interface. The iPod classic now comes in sizes up to a whopping 160 gigs and boasts a sleeker, all metal design. Cover flow, a featured introduced in the iPhone to flip through album art is also available in the Classic. Prices start at $249 for the Classic and $139 for the Nano. It doesn’t end there though. The biggest news is the new iPod touch. This iPod is basically an iPhone without the Phone. Welcome to the future of handheld computing. The touch is supported by the Mac OSX operating system and has the same multi-touch technology of the iPhone along with Wi-Fi and a full version of the Safari web browser. A big 3.5 inch wide screen display will play video at a quality you won’t believe until you see it. Soon Apple will take the wraps off of a Wi-Fi version of the iTunes music store where you will be able to preview and buy music directly from your Wi-Fi connection. When you go back to your computer to sync your iPod it will add it to your iTunes library. The iPod touch starts at $299. These new features and devices will be a boon to any real estate professional that has iTunes compatible video content. (Flash based real estate videos, including YouTube (see comments), are not compatible with the iPod touch or iPhone). Looks like it’s going to be another huge holiday season for Apple.

The touch is going to be huge.

I just saw the guided tour and it specifically said you can view Youtube videos on the iPod touch.
I definitely wanted an iPhone, but didn’t want to switch my phone company. I think the iPod touch is a great compromise.

Dee,
The YouTube application content when the iPhone first launched did not have a complete searchable database of YouTube videos. I just checked and they are now starting to include more content. Im not sure if that includes the entire YouTube database but I will check.

We have released our iPhone and iPod support for the RealBird Listing Publisher (optimized UI rendered automatically) and we also started an iPod Touch giveaway.
Demand seems to be huge based on the responses we received. I agree with other bloggers: the iPod Touch might very well be the biggest Apple hit for the real estate industry. The brand awareness is there and the Apple marketing people made sure, that the need is there too: genius timing of product release. I saw many responses like Dee’s (including my own commitment to get an iPod Touch as soon as it is out). iPhone created the demand and the “envy” and now the iPod Touch will fill the void big time.
