Read, or get Read to

I recently came across a product that automatically converts your blog posts into audio files.  All you have to do is download this WordPress plugin and upload it to your site.  The process took me about 5 minutes and it’s pretty cool.

There are several companies that do this, but I’ve only tried Odiogo. There are a few things that I really like about this plugin…

1. It’s free.

2. It’s easy to use.  Once you install the plugin, you’re done.  It automatically sets up and you don’t have to do anything again.

3. It allows people to listen to your posts, opposed to reading it.

Now I realize Odiogo can’t read your links and things like that, but it does allow you to hear the posts on your iPod, computer or whatever else.  Wouldn’t it be nice to shop online, workout, cook dinner or drive home while you listen to your favorite blogger?

The voice Odiogo uses is surprisingly tolerable.  I’ve heard other “human” voices before, but this one’s not bad.  I think this is a great tool to have, just in case your readers want to be read to and not always have to read your blog.  It’s also another way let your fans subscribe to your blog.  Check it out…who knows, maybe now people will “read” your blog!

I tried it out and it works great! Its not just a free gimmicky program, but a useful tool that has many applications. I wouldn’t say the voice is completely natural but it doesn’t drive you crazy either.

I want something like that but in the reverse. I see all these videos with captions like “Massive Fires hundreds Killed” and I want to know what is going on without loading a video on my computer. If there was a transcript or summary I would be much happier.

This could be quite fun to offer my readers! Thanks for the download! I have to agree with Jill too; when I need to multitask, it would be nice to have summaries for videos.

The real benefit to converting your articles into podcasts is the potential for larger link building campaigns and traffic.

There are literally thousands of podcast directories out there that you can list your site in for free once you install Odiogo.
