The Silver Bullet of Blogging??
Everyone is always looking for the silver bullet of blogging. You know…leads on a daily basis with zero effort. But I have news – that never JUST happens. Don’t get me wrong, blogging CAN BE the greatest thing on the planet for lead generation in the real estate vertical. But there’s a slight problem — to get to a point where your lead generation is consistent and sustainable involves “work”. Jay Thompson got to where he is today over the course of 5-6 years of blogging; he didn’t get to where he is today by sitting around and doing nothing.
I know no one wants to spend the time to write content consistently. No one wants to produce videos (just ask Darin). No one wants to post photos. No one wants to research. No one wants to spend the time to build links. People just want their website/blog to work on its own, and produce leads for them without any effort. Unfortunately, the web doesn’t work that way; driving traffic is hard work — and it requires your time or your money. If you’re not willing to spend either, then online leads are going to be few and far between.
So, what is the “silver bullet” of blogging?
Goals and a strategy.
I’m a firm believer that if you know what your long term goals are (in business or life), you’ll somehow figure out a strategy to get there. That is, unless you are lazy and unmotivated entirely – then nothing can help you.
Back to your regular scheduled programming and off my soapbox.

Posted at 16:59h, 02 JulyThanks Drew. Having a schedule has been crucial for me. I set alerts to be sent to my email every monday and friday to do a scheduled post I do every week. I tell myself I can’t clear off the notification on my android phone until I make that post for the day. Coming along nicely so far. 32 posts in about 2 months of it being active. Not too bad.

Posted at 14:17h, 06 JulyStrategy, strategy, and more dang strategy is the key as you said it. Well….that and persistence. 5-6 years of blogging is quite a feat and have actually stumbled onto his site on more than one occasion – he’s got to be doing a few things right.
Unrelated, but what type of programming do you do(languages that is)?

Posted at 15:25h, 06 JulyYou are absolutely right that it takes work–and hard work at that. Blogging can be very beneficial and effective but it does require consistency and a lot of effort.

Posted at 17:55h, 07 JulyI agree that real estate professionals are very much prone to believe in the existence of a “Magic Bullet”, I can’t number the time’s I’ve talked to people who started their real estate blog, and after 30 days of doing posting 1 or 2 posts being flabbergasted that they didn’t get 15 leads banging on their door.

Posted at 18:56h, 09 JulyI think that statement referring to agents…or people in general…..who think starting a blog and writing one article a week is a silver bullet is best represented by how many people who have started an AR account and abandoned it 2-3 months later. Blogging is hard work and requires commitment……just like anything else that yields great results.
The more I read about blogging and more examples I see of other successful bloggers (who actually generate leads), the more determination I get to stick with it.
