Walk Score just released some cool new transit time maps for the Bay Area, Seattle, and Portland (based on the Google Transit feed). You can see how long your commute would be depending on the area you live in and what time you need to leave for work. From a home buyers perspective, this is awesome data. It’s only up for three cities now, but I’m sure more are on the way. Here are screen shots:

Now, if only Walk Score enabled you to to quickly embed these maps into your own site…or syndicate the data via an API. Now that would be cool!

  • Don't know what rock I've been under, but this is a great tool. Will be on my web site in short order.
  • I've been using Walk Score for a few weeks and my clients love it. There's a lot of great info for them to utilize.
  • I really hope that Walk Score expands this feature into other markets. I'm in St. Louis, and spent the first 5 years of my real estate career working with relocating buyers. Helping people understand the traffic patterns and which areas they could live in based on their maximum commute was an important piece of the puzzle for people moving to a new area.

I actually bought Microsoft Streets & Trips for a few years simply to get the drive time feature. I would love to have this available online!
  • This is another great service using "out of the box" thinking that is going to strengthen your website's arsenal of tools over your competitors website. I'm working with someone at Walkscore right now to implement into my site.
  • Actually this is going to be available. Dwellicious is the first company that I have seen that is going to use it, and my personal favorite software HomeQuest is trying to have that available in the future.
  • I have checked out Walkscore for a few months on my listings. It is really helpful. It is good to see that they are adding new tools.
