BRAVO Laurent, BRAVO! That is a high quality comment to a Blog post. Your point is "EXCELLENT"! In Real Estate, I agree, only (aprox) 10% of the Realtors/Brokers are even caught up to Web 2.0, but I submit to you this....#1 - The vast majority of them are discovering that being so far behind has cost them dearly #2 - Perhaps, at the moment we are pointing this Web 3.0 discussion at the 10% that are ready to start thinking ahead (as they did with Web 2.0, and look where that has gotten them!) and #3 - I believe that with this next phase, that 10% adoption rate, will be at minimum doubled to 20% and perhaps as high as 25% as they begin to employ more staff with an Internet background. How's that for Optimistic?!

Case in point, my Escrow Co. (Just began there Dec 1st) Pango Group, found me (and me them) via Social Networking. The reason I signed on with them was their strong commitment to, not only SN (They hired Stacey Harmon @staceyharmon as their Social Media Director for God's sake), but a truly aggressive Internet Marketing and Technology based "Paperless" Escrow system!!! You sound as if you have been around Real Estate for a while, when have you ever heard of an Escrow Co. doing that? I loved it! If an Escrow Co. can see the light, ANY Real Estate Co. can! :-)

I love your contribution to furthering the Internet by hanging that IE6 banner! Every lil bit helps, and we build our future brick by brick! I salute your efforts, because you are "getting in the game".

Please continue to comment on my posts, I enjoy your insight, and please continue your efforts. With more people involved, we can make a difference...Please allow me to use excerpts of your comments in further posts, here, and on my personal blog???

Coach

I probably come off as a little confrontational and for that I apologize.

How can we say we're in what you call the web 2.0 or any other phase when there's such a huge disparency between website?

In my area, 75% of the real estate websites are table based, use animated gifs and resize small pictures to make them bigger using the html img tag. Flashback to 1990 anyone?

Another thing you have to remember is that our market is not always tech savy. The average home buyer is not using the developer build of google chrome on a linux box. As a matter of fact, 10% of our market is still using IE6 which means SLOW javascript execution and no png alpha transparency among other things.

There is already so much catching up to do to bring everyone to where we are now. What I'm doing to "design and define it" is actually very concrete. I add a banner on every website I make asking IE6 users to update their browser. Probably not the answer you were looking for though.

Laurent, please don't get upset, I am not "mocking" you. I am saying that it is easy to criticize people for something you don't agree with, but it is more impressive when you can offer up solutions instead, or at the same time. Fact is Web 2.0 is so accepted now that it is the "definition" of the current stage of the Internet on all major encyclopedia and dictionary sites. It is used by Ivy League colleges, and Pac 10 colleges to describe where we are, and where we have come from. Many people share your view; that Web 3.0 is a silly description of the next phase, some call it "Semantic" web amongst others, but if history shows us anything, it's that humans are a "Simple" lot, the majority will migrate to the simplest solution, and Web 3.0 is a simple solution. My guess is Web 3.0 will be the accepted phrase used, but I don't really care. Nor do I think it's relevant to the discussion. What is relevant is ... What do you think it will look like? and What can you do to "Design" & "Define" it!

Coach

Truth is adding a version number to the Internet makes no sense. People who use such meaningless words are usually the ones that are not in the game or hardly understand how it works.
