Especially given how tech savvy the Geek Estate readership is (and since this blog is hosted on Media Temple and experienced an outage earlier today), I’m curious — what web hosting provider do you use to host your website(s)? Please take the poll below to help figure out which web hosting companies are most popular in the real estate vertical — and if you are using one that’s not on the list and you highly recommend them, please leave a comment!

http://www.arvixe.com – can't say enough good things about this company. I've jumped around quite a bit and have never been happier. MT is probably good for the huge companies but not for small real estate blogs.

I use linode.com for all my hosting. It's a VPS provider. If you're not family with linux, you can get someone to set it up for you. It seems a lot more complicated than it really is. I would never go back to shared hosting, especially not godaddy. The performance and control you get for a slight price increase (it starts at 20 dollars a month) is definitely worth it especially with websites that are database driven. I'm getting close to 1000x perfomance increase on some mysql queries compared to when I was on godaddy.

If you want to try it out, you can use my referral URL which is http://www.linode.com/?r=8e8cfc68028b2be927b331...

I use CrystalTech.com and have found them to be very good. I will however be trying out Azure when a major release is done early next year.

Surprised nobody is with Godaddy, yet. I've got 3 different hosting accounts. Real Estate Tomato hosts my blog, Media Temple for my WPMU load, and I still have a godaddy account that I really need to transfer over to media temple. All have been excellent.

I've been using GoDaddy for about six months. I switched over when my former host pulled a sudden disappearing act. Was looking for something large and stable. GoDaddy's support is awesome but I've been wondering lately if my site isn't running a bit slow and Google's “site performance” tool indicates that it's slower than most so I need to figure out if it's my site files or my host.

I never had a problem with hostgator and I recommend these guys. Unfortunately I can't recommend Lunarpages, with their support service outsourced to complete amateurs..

My company's been using Point2 as a temporary solution until we get one custom built. I mainly like it for the syndication and dashboard with clicks/views. Gives us pretty numbers.

If you want a free host then your best bet is going to be http://www.000webhost.com/213818.html. They offer a ton of features for free including 150 website templates. 100gb data transfer is a lot too.

I buy my domains through godaddy because they are more affordable, but have used HostGator for hosting and management of all WP blogs for about 2 years now with no issues.

Their are quite a few options when it comes to hosting. It really depends on your unique needs. One VERY important thing to look into is how much memory they allow you to use and how much CPU time they allow a script to use; this is especially important when hosting a wordpress blog. A lot of wordpress blogs will use 20 -30 mb of memory with some operations and most hosts only allow 15 – 20 mb of memory to be used. Your users are going to get a page that doesn't load or “error 500″ messages – not good. :)

I use both Godaddy(for shared) & Layered Tech(for dedicated). As I think – layered is better.

Very interesting article, I think we all are curious what providers everyone else uses. Personally, I use a special provider because of my site which is kind of special. I found it through the internet and I must say, it really is cheap hosting. It's very cheap and you can find everything you need there.

have been a customer with DreamHost for 5 years. My lead Web site has been online since 2000 and gets about 1000 visitors per day. I presently use the account to host five minor domains.

Dreamhost used to be great. I looked forward to Josh's monthly newsletter, and loved the ease of use of the admin panel, which is clearer and more user-friendly than cPanel.

But about a year ago, the company had major downtime problems. Because they had been so good before, and because of the pain of transferring domains, I stuck with them.

But overall, the service has generally deteriorated.
