So it seems that there’s no good or bad, only thinking makes it so. I’m thinking that the thesis theme prevents duplicate indexing of tags and categories etc automagically. At least I hope it does.

I personally use both, a tag to me is a broad discretion of the topic and could be contained in multiple categories.
